Meet the head mamas
Chapter Leader - Tanya
I'm Tanya, and I'm the Chapter Leader of Muskegon, MI Moms RUN This Town. I didn't start running until after my second child was born, when I was 27. After my third child was born, I wanted to get back to running but was struggling. I knew I needed something to help motivate and push me. I heard of Moms RUN This Town from a friend in Arizona, and looked to see if we had a chapter here in Muskegon. We didn't, so I started one! It has been the best experience ever, as we have grown to over 150 active members. I now have a large network of local women running friends to train with, run races with, and socialize with outside of running. My kids and job keep me busy, so I rely on some wonderful helpers to keep our chapter of MRTT going. I know it's a success because I think it could fully function without me!
Co-Leader - Stephanie
I’m Stephanie. I just started running in September of 2013 after recently moving to the area, needing to get back in shape, and not knowing anyone locally. I am a stay at home mom of a toddler boy who keeps me on my toes and crazy enough to need an outlet. I found Muskegon Moms RUN This Town and joined thinking, “Why Not?”. Now, I couldn’t imagine my life without this group. Since, I have ran many miles, several races, and even am starting to train for a half marathon. I never thought I would gain such great friends, running buddies, and a constant support group from joining on a whim.
Weekly Run Coordinator- Sherry
Hi....I'm Sherry. I started running in April 2013. I had tried several times before to run, but this time it finally just "clicked". Like most, I used the C25K app, and ran intervals for the first year. I didn't find MRTT until January 2014. I got a message from our Fearless Leader, Tanya. We had some friends in common, and she noticed that I was a newer runner. I was running on the treadmill at the time. After many questions to her about running in the winter.....I went out and purchased the necessities. My first run with the Group was later that month. I was so happy to find a group of like minded women. Running together, supporting each other, and most importantly - providing the encouragement to keep going when you don't think you can. I have gained so much from this group. This is so true....."We started out as a group of runners.... And finished as a group of friends."
Book Club Coordinator - Robin
I’m Robin and I am in charge of our MRTT Throw Back Book Club meetings. This is a great time for us to get together outside of running to mingle and enjoy each others company (who doesn’t love a fun night out?)! I started running seriously about 4 years ago, before my first child was born. I trained for the 25k at Riverbank and succeeded in finishing! Definitely a huge accomplishment for me. Since then, I use running as a tool to help keep me in shape, as a stress reliever, and a fun way to see friends! I currently just had my second daughter about 5 months ago, so I am working back up to running longer distances and getting back to my pre-pregnancy weight.
